Release notes

What’s new.

Saral updates itself quietly: you’ll see a small notice inside the app when a new version is ready. Here’s what changed.

Latest 1.2.5

A quieter workspace, and more you can do with your voice.

New

Voice answers and selected-text actions, on by default

Hold Fn Control on a Mac or Ctrl Alt Q on Windows to ask a question. Select text first and Saral understands the whole request: edits replace the selection, questions keep it and add an answer, and literal requests are typed exactly. Unclear requests ask for clarification instead of guessing.

New

An optional quick-start guide

Three short steps on first launch: an animated typing example, speech and writing setup with automatic fallback, and privacy. Skip it any time and reopen it from Help & about.

Improved

Live meetings skip the silence

Speech is detected on-device and only the parts with speech are transcribed. Record-first mode, multi-file import and transcript combining are all still there.

Improved

Calmer settings

Settings now shows just its categories, with one arrow to return to where you were. Vocabulary, writing styles, provider details and Diagnostics were tidied up, and Home stays minimal.

Improved

Appearance everywhere

Light, dark and System appearance now reach the recording indicator and the macOS Dock icon too.

Fixed

Unlock saved keys after an update

When your OS vault needs approval after an update, Home offers a one-click Unlock API keys. Keys stay masked throughout.

Earlier 1.2.4

Remote dictation, voice answers and multi-clip transcripts.

New

Voice answers

A separate hold-to-talk shortcut for questions, with Answer only or Question + answer modes. Connect an answer model under AI & models.

New

Import up to 20 clips at once

Audio and video files are processed one after another, each with its own transcript. Combine 2 to 20 transcripts in the order you choose and export text, Markdown or SRT with continuous timestamps.

Improved

Rich formatting where it fits

Headings, emphasis, nested bullets, numbered steps and tables paste as rich text into compatible editors. Plain fields get clean text without stray symbols, and code editors keep exactly what you said.

Improved

Dictate over Apple Screen Sharing

Insertion into a remote Mac now works reliably, and if the destination changes mid-way, Saral stops and keeps your text in History.

Fixed

A steadier Fn key

The Mac shortcut listener recovers from missed key releases and restarts itself if it stops.

Earlier 1.2.0

Permissions that survive updates.

Improved

A persistent signing identity on Mac

Saral now ships with a stable community signature, so macOS keeps recognising it as the same app from one release to the next. Coming from an older build? Approve it once more and you’re set.
