API keys & failover

Add your keys. Never stall again.

Connect as many keys as you like across Groq, Deepgram, Sarvam, ElevenLabs, OpenAI-compatible services and more. If one runs dry, gets rate limited or goes offline, Saral switches to the next, so you never stop mid-sentence.

Playground

Break a key. Watch Saral route around it.

  1. Click a key’s status to make it rate limited, invalid or offline.
  2. Press Dictate and follow the request down your route.
  3. Add keys or providers, and move providers up or down to change the order.
Healthy Rate limited Invalid key Offline

This is a simulation with sample keys. Nothing here connects to a provider, and you never need to paste a real key into a website.

Speech recognitionProviders are tried top to bottom. Keys inside a provider take turns.

      In the app

Set up once. Then forget it.

The optional quick start on first launch walks you through it, or head to Settings → AI & models any time.

      1. Add a provider

Open Settings → AI & models and choose + Add provider. Speech and AI polish each get their own list.

      2. Paste your keys

Add one key or ten. Each goes straight into macOS Keychain or Windows Credential Manager and stays masked.

      3. Set the order

Drag providers into the order you want, pick models, and add on-device Whisper as a last resort.

      4. Just dictate

Saral spreads requests across your keys and fails over on its own. Your saved order never changes behind your back.

      The rules

What happens when a key fails.

Each kind of failure gets the right pause, so a tired key gets a rest and a bad one stops wasting your time.

What went wrongWhat Saral doesKey rests for
Rate limitedMoves the same dictation to your next key or provider right away.60 seconds
Key rejected or expiredSkips that key so it stops failing, and carries on with the rest.1 hour
Can’t connectTreats it as a network blip and tries the next option.30 seconds
Request timed outGives it a short break, then lets it back in.10 seconds
Model unavailableRests only that model and keeps using the key with your other models.5 minutes (model)

For AI polish, Saral stops trying after about 15 seconds so a dictation never hangs. If every option is down at once, Saral tells you rather than leaving you waiting.

      Good to know

Extra keys spread your requests, but they don’t multiply a free allowance or get around a provider’s rate limits. Falling back to a paid provider uses that provider’s pricing.

Offers checked on 6 October 2026. They can change, so check each provider’s dashboard before you rely on them.

      Your keys stay locked.

Keys are typed only into the Saral app on your computer. They never pass through this website or a Saral server.

      How keys are stored
      • OS-level vault

macOS Keychain or Windows Credential Manager. Settings only keep a reference.

      • Always masked

Keys are hidden in the interface once saved, and never shown in full again.

      • No plain-text fallback

If the vault isn’t available, Saral keeps your existing setup rather than writing keys to a file.

      • Remove any time

Remove a key whenever you like. Your other keys and your saved order stay as they are.

      Bring every key. Keep talking.

Free for Mac and Windows. Add your keys in Settings and Saral takes care of the rest.
